Father Archilles de Gryse was a Belgium priest at the Catholic Mission in Cervantes, in 1950. Prior to this he had founded Saint Mary's Elementary School in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya  in June 1928 which today is known as Saint Mary's University.

The Philippine College of Commerce and Business Adminstration was establishedin September 1946. It quickly grew in size and a new building was built on Azcarraga Street (now Recto Avenue) in January 1948. In July 1951 the college was granted University status and was re-named Univeristy of the East.

Catholic Trade was founded in 1924 by the missionaries of the Society of the Divine World.  A store still exists (Catholic Trade Mania Inc.) at 1916 Oroquite, Manila which sells religious books, booklets and magazines.
