PAULINO ABOITIZ

Paulino Aboitiz is a Spaniard of Basque origin, who arrived in the Philippines in the 1870s. He started the rise of the Aboitiz clan in the southern Philippines, first in Leyte and later in Cebu, starting with abaca trade.
He founded Aboitiz & Company in the late 1800s as an abaca trading and general merchandise business in Ormoc, Leyte and later ventured into inter-island shipping to transport its goods across the Visayas.
