Lucrecia Kasilag was a composer and pianist and was awarded National Artist of the Philippines for music in 1989.
Lucreci Kasilag was instrumental in developing Philippine music and culture. She is credited for having written more than 350 musical compositions, ranging from folksongs to opera to orchestral works and was nown for incorporating indigenous Filipino instruments into orchestral productions.
She founded the Bayanihan Folks Arts Center for research and theatrical presentations, and was closely involved Aa music directress, researcher, and composer with the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company. She was also president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines for a period of 17 yeas.
