Joaquin Pardo de Tavera was the first director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) between 1946 and 1950.

JOAQUIN PARDO DE TAVERA     

Pardo de Tavera was born in Switzerland and grew up in France, as his father had been exiled after the Cavite uprising in 1872.

 

He came to the Philippines in 1905 and studied to become a lawyer. In 1939, he accepted the apointment as Chief of the Division of Investigation of the Department of Justice.

 

Duirng the Japanese occupation he was imprisoned like many leading Filipinos. However, after the war he reorganised the  Division. When the Division was converted into the National Bureau of Investigation hecame its first president.

 

Pardo de Tavera was a philatleist, and became president of the Associacion Filatelica de Filipinas in 1926.
