St Mary Euphrasia Pelletier founded the congregation of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Angers, France in 1835.

ST MARY EUPHRASIA PELLETIER

Mary Euphrasia Pelletier was born in the island of Noirmoutier in France.

The Good Shepherd Sisters, in addition to the standard vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, take the following fourth vow of zeal for souls [to save souls], particularly of women and girls.

St. Mary Euphrasia was mother-general of the Good Shepherd for 33 years, and at her death in 1868, 110 Good Shepherd convents were in place all over the world. St. Mary Euphrasia also formed the Sisters Magdalen for women who wished to live a cloistered life, but were ineligible to become Sisters within the Good Shepherd order.

She was beatified on 30 April 1933 and canonised on 2 May 1940 by Pope Pius XII .
