Pope Francis is the 266th and reigning pope of the Catholic church.
Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina the son of an Italina immigrant. He was ordained as a priest in 1969 and elected as Pope on 13 March 2013.
Francis is the first Jesuit Pope and the first non-European Pope since Gregory III, 1272 years earlier. He is the first pope from the southern hemisphere and the first Pope from the Americas.
