Saint Pedro Poveda is the founder of the Teresian Association.

SAINT PEDRO POVEDA

Pedro Poveda was born in Spain. He was ordained in 1897. In 1906, he was assigned as canon in the Marian Sanctuary of Covadonga. While in Covadonga, he dedicated himself to solving the problems that confronted Christian education at that time.

He founded an Academy in Oviedo in 1911 which became the seed for the Teresian Association.

When the Civil War broke out in Spain, he was identified as an enemy by those who wished to dechristianize the schools and was shot to death for his faith.

He was beatified in October 1993 and canonized in May 2003 by Pope John Paul II.

The Saint Pedro Poveda College (formerly known as the Poveda Learning Centre and Institucion Teresiana) is a private preparatory school for girls run by the Teresian Association of Lay Missionaries. It is located in the heart of Metro Manila's Ortigas Business District .
