Tun Razak was the first Deputy Prime Minister of Malayisa between 1957 and 1970 when he became second Prime Minister of Malaysia, ruling from 1970 to 1976.

TUN RAZAK

Razak was the Prime Minister responsible in setting up Barisan Nasional, which is the ruling coalition of political parties that have held power in Malaysia till today.

 

Tun Razak was descended from a long line of Pahang chieftains of Bugis descent. He was the brother in law of Tun Onn, his successor as Prime Minister. Razak's eldest son, Najib Razak, became the 6th Prime Minister of Malaysia.

 

In 1967, Razak as Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysa, together with the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore officially formed ASEAN in a bid to form a united front in the face of Communist expansion in Vietnam.
