HONORATA DE LA RAMA

11 January 1902 to 11 July 1991 

Honorata de la Rama was a singer and performed in bodabil (a form of variety entertainment) before becomming the first Filipina film actress. She was popularly known as Atang de la Rama and in 1987 was proclaimed National Artist of the Philippines for Theatre and Music

At the age of 15, de la Rama starred in the sarsuela (a musical play) Dalagang Bukid, where she became known for singing Nabasag na Banga. She became the first actress in the first Tagalog film when she played the same role in the film version of the sarsuela.

de la Rama was the producer and the writer of plays such as Anak ni Eva and Bulaklak ng Kabundukan. For her achievements and contributions to the art form, she was hailed Queen of the Kundiman and of the Sarsuela in 1979.
