Jorge Vargas was a founding member of the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation (now the Philippine Olympic Committee) in 1911. He was also the first Filipino member of the International Olympic Committee.

JORGE VARGUS

Jorge Vargas later served as Chairman of the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation from 1935 to 1955.

 

Vargas served as the legislative secretary to Speaker Sergio Osmena of the House of Representatives and in 1919 was appointed by President Quezon as his Executive Secretary, becoming the first Philipino to serve in such a position.

 

Vargas was mayor of the Greater Manila area in 1941.

In 1949 Vargus was chosen to be President and Chief Scout of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. He served the position of National President until 1961.
