Francisca del Espiritu Santo was a founder of the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of Saint Catherine of Siena in the Philippines.

FRANCISCA DEL ESPIRITU SANTO

Francisca del Espiritu Santo was born in Manila. After a short marriage without children and having been a widow, she devoted her life to the sick and poor people and the youth.

She joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic in 1682 and formed a small group of women, but met with opposition when she tried to found a congregation for Philippine girls. Through perseverance she built her monastery Beatorio de Santa Catalina de Siena in Manila in 1696.
