Anne Marie Eugenie was born in 1817 in Metz, France. At twenty-two, Marie Eugenie founded the Religious of the Assumption in 1839.

The order of the Religious of the Assumption was dedicated to the education of young women.

Anne Marie Eugenie was beatified in February 1975 and canonized in June 2007.

Filipinos have a special role in the sainthood of Marie Eugenie, . The miracle in 1997 that led to her canonization happened to a Filipina Risa Bondoc. The child's brain malfunction was cured after her family and the Assumption sisters prayed for the intercession of Marie Eugenie and after the child was placed on top of her tomb in Paris.
