Tunku Abdul Rahman was Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya from 1955, and the country's first Prime Minister from independence in 1957.

TUNKU RAHMAN

He remained as the Prime Minister after Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore joined the federation in 1963 to form Malaysia.

 

Between 1954 and 1955 Rahman negotiated Malayan independence with Britain which was eventually declared in 1957. A Prime Minister, Rahman dominated the politics of independent Malaya  and remained as the Prime Minister after Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore joined the federation in 1963 to form Malaysia.

 

He was forced to resign as Prime Minister in 1971.
